ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) POLICY FOR JURNAL SYLVA LESTARI
1. Introduction
Jurnal Sylva Lestari recognizes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in supporting authors throughout the research and manuscript preparation process. The journal welcomes advancements in AI that can facilitate idea generation, enhance research discovery, synthesize and analyze findings, improve language clarity, and assist in structuring submissions.
While large language models (LLMs) and generative AI provide opportunities for efficiency in research and dissemination, they cannot replace human creativity and critical thinking. This AI policy aims to guide authors, reviewers, and editors in making ethical decisions regarding AI usage.
2. Allowed Use of AI Tools
Authors are permitted to utilize AI tools for various aspects of manuscript preparation, including but not limited to:
- Language editing and proofreading: AI tools can assist in correcting grammar, spelling, and language fluency.
- Reference management: AI-powered reference managers can help format citations, generate bibliographies, and organize references.
- Plagiarism detection: AI-based plagiarism detection tools may be used to ensure originality and maintain manuscript integrity.
- Data analysis: AI algorithms can assist in analyzing complex data sets and presenting results concisely and clearly.
3. Prohibited Use of AI Tools
Despite the benefits, certain AI applications are not allowed in manuscript preparation, including:
- Content creation: AI tools must not generate primary content, such as the introduction, methodology, results, and conclusions. Authors are responsible for contributing original intellectual input.
- Ethical concerns: AI should not be used to manipulate or fabricate data, create misleading results, or engage in unethical research practices.
4. Recommendations for AI Usage
Authors employing AI tools in manuscript preparation should:
- Verify AI-generated content: Authors must critically review and validate AI-generated content to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Transparent disclosure: Authors must disclose AI usage in manuscript submission. AI-based tools used for language editing, plagiarism checking, or data analysis should be mentioned in the acknowledgments section.
- Proper acknowledgment: AI tools and software should be appropriately cited in the manuscript where relevant.

Authors must adhere to ethical research and publication standards. Any misuse of AI that leads to copyright infringement, plagiarism, or unethical research practices will be considered a violation of publication ethics.
